Bali Tour - Ancient Bali
This tour uniquely combines two of Bali’s lesser known attractions and is punctuated by the lush natural landscape of the area. The first point of interest is the ancient monument of Gunung Kawi the name of which simply translates to "carving in the mount".
A steep stone stairway leads down into a beautiful valley where you encounter 10, seven-meter-high memorials or Tjandis intricately carved into the rock face completed around 1080 AD.
Steeped in history and rumour, Gunung Kawi is the only memorial of it’s kind on the island owing to the fact that it was built by those influenced by a Royal funeral cult that existed only briefly between changes of empires. It is believed to be the final resting place of the ancient King’s concubines….
A short drive takes us to the Sacred Baths and Holy Springs of Tirta Empul, the next place of discovery.
