Bali is one of over 17,000 islands…
Kintamani is one of the most awesome views on the island overlooking the largest crater lake in Bali at Danau Batur and the still active volcano of Mount Batur. The lake covers over 18 square kilometers and is a vital source of fresh water for the island. As such the lake and surrounding temples are highly revered and it is not unusual to see some sort of ceremonial procession or offerings taking place.
On the way to the crater, stop off at Celuk where Bali’s best gold and silversmiths live and work and Batuan an artisan village of painters. Then go to the village of Mas, home to Bali’s most popular and prolific woodcarvers. Here you will see first-hand how the incredible wooden carvings readily on display and for sale all over the island are created.
The road from Mas to the ancient temple of Gunung Kawi winds its way past picture postcard rice fields and into the old kingdom of Tampaksiring. Built in the 11th century, the temple complex comprises 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) carved into a cliff face and is home to the royal gravestones from the Warmadewa Dynasty.
Have lunch in Kintamani overlooking one of the most awesome views anywhere!
